The TestDaF is a German language examination conceived by the TestDaF-Institut. It is designed for foreign students who want to study in Germany and need proof of their German language proficiency. The examination questions and tasks are developed by the TestDaF-Institut. The examination is held worldwide according to centrally appointed dates and all examinations are graded by the TestDaF-Institut. As a rule, you will receive the examination result six weeks after completion of the examination.
Examination results are given one of three grade levels for each of the four sections:
To be eligible for admission to most German universities, applicants must have a minimum score of TDN 4 in all four sections. This level corresponds to the B2-C1 proficiency level. However, individual universities may have different admission requirements, so it is advisable to check with the university in question. If the examination results fall below the required level, the university may reconsider your admission or request additional German language requirements.
The TestDaF examination can only be taken at licenced test centers either as a paper or digital examination. For more information about the two formats, please visit the TestDaF website.
